Meshes
A New Modeling Technology

Background

BioComp Systems team members have been working with neural networks since 1988.  Neural networks have been a strategic foundation technology for the company and many of our solutions are based upon neural network modeling and model deployment technologies.  In working with neural networks, we have found many assumptions and limitations within the common practices that limit results.   In analyzing neural network technologies, we have found new modeling methodologies that open doors to broad opportunities for improvements and highly advanced yet simple systems.  We are now implementing these new techniques as "Meshes".

What are Meshes?

Meshes are a new, more generalized modeling technique that supercede neural networks.  They are a new paradigm of adaptive data modeling that is more flexible yet can easily be tuned to a more specific solution to a particular application.  They provide current applications smaller, more compact, specifically tuned models that are more effective in meeting the challenges our customers face.  This is a win/win situation.  At the same time, Meshes are capable of much more sophisticated models that enable us to extend functionality well into the new decade.  The internal technical implementation of Meshes will be held as a trade secret as they give us a clear competitive advantage.

What is a Free Form Mesh and How is It Better?

A Free Form Mesh is a structureless model, hence the name "Free Form".  The internal design of the model is typically implemented using a search and optimization methodology that tunes the complexity, nature and parameters of the model to the task at hand.  Free Form models generally have smaller "degrees of freedom" than neural networks, yet are more effective than traditional (linear) regression techniques.  They have the capability to adapt as necessary to the complexity of the challenge they are solving.

Meshes afford both you, our customer and us as a technology provider a strategic and important advantage.  You will be seeing releases of new tools and capabilities in our products in the very near future.
